Best 4th of July. Ever.

Sorry we didn't post yesterday. We tried, but couldn't connect to the internet at our motel last night.

But suffice it to say we had the best 4th of July ever. We started off the day heading down toward Yellowstone Lake, and took a little turnoff to see some hot springs. While we were looking at the pool from which Great Fountain Geyser erupts, White Dome Geyser, which is right beside it, erupted!

Then we traveled south toward Yellowstone Lake, crossing the Continental Divide, twice. There is a small lake at the top of the divide, with two outlets. One of the outlets makes its way to the Atlantic Ocean, and the other to the Pacific.

We then had lunch on the shores of Yellowstone Lake, and drove past Fishing Bridge (stopping at the Mud Volcano) to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. There are no words to describe the beauty of the view of the Lower Falls from Artist Point. Photographs do not do it justice.

The day (and trip) was made complete late in the day, because we saw two black bears and a coyote!

This has been the best 4th of July I have ever experienced. The natural beauty of Yellowstone is unparalleled in any place I have ever visited. It was almost too much, a sensory overload. I had heard so much about Yellowstone, and I had very high expectations. Yet my expectations were exceeded, beyond my imagination. If you have been to Yellowstone, you know what I mean. If you haven't, you will never understand until you go for yourself. And you owe it to yourself to take the time, and make the trip.
