Milwaukee to Mitchell

It's the end of a long hard day of driving. We are now in a very nice Super 8 in Mitchell, South Dakota, which costs exactly $10 more than last night's motel, and is about ten times as nice.

When we got off the ferry in Milwaukee, we headed west to Madison, and then north through the Wisconsin Dells. We saw some places where the flooded rivers have receded, but which are obviously still flooded. Fortunately for us, none of the roads were blocked.

Then we headed west, across the Mississippi River (stopping for a few photos), and continued west through southern Minnesota. Everything is lush and green, and the scenery has been beautiful. We went from the rolling hills of the Wisconsin Dells (and one very odd-looking rock formation) to the Great Plains. We saw some deer (one crossed the Interstate just in front of us), but not much other wildlife. There was a spectacular sunset as we were leaving Minnesota and approaching South Dakota. We decided to stop for the night at Mitchell because we were tired, and were fortunate to find a very nice place to stay.

Tomorrow we're off to the Badlands!

I think you picked the wrong picture for the pic of the day. That one of the gorgeous sunset was just spectacular. However, I must agree that the power lines are dramatic, just not as beautiful as the sunset.
